April 2026 UK Direct Cremation Price Update

CremationCompare Editorial TeamLast reviewed 15 April 2026

We compare published UK provider pricing only. We are not a funeral director, and providers are always ranked by price — lowest first — regardless of any commercial relationship. Read our editorial methodology and how we make money.

This is our April 2026 price verification cycle across all 9 national direct cremation providers we track. Current UK direct cremation prices range from £895 to £1,595. Express Cremations confirmed their pricing directly with us this month; no other providers changed.

Provider verification — Express Cremations

Our April outreach cycle reached Gordon Tulley at Respect Direct Funeral Services (the parent company of Express Cremations). Gordon confirmed pricing directly by email on 13 April and corrected several details we had sourced from their public pricing page:

  • Regional price corrected from £1,145 to £1,095
  • Ashes return charge corrected from £150 to £50 nationally
  • Home collection surcharges clarified: £100 local, £200 regional
  • Out-of-hours surcharges: £160 local, £200 regional
  • Company confirmed as NAFD and GFD members, not online-only
  • Uses an eco cremation shroud rather than a standard coffin

The Express Cremations listing now shows a "Verified by provider" badge to reflect this. It is the first provider to directly confirm their details with us under our new accuracy-check outreach programme.

Industry context

The UK direct cremation market has been stable through the winter, with no major price movements in the past six months. The average funeral cost reported by SunLife in their 2026 Cost of Dying Report sits at £4,141, which means direct cremation continues to offer families typical savings of £2,500–£3,200 compared to a traditional attended funeral.

The regulatory backdrop continues to bed in following the September 2024 Medical Examiner reforms, which ended the £82 Cremation Form 4/5 doctor's fee in England and Wales. Not all providers have updated their websites to reflect this — see our how to choose a cremation provider guide for what to check.

What we changed on the site this month

  • Added the "Verified by provider" badge column on all 51 city comparison tables
  • Added 30 new city pages (Aberdeen, Derby, Plymouth and 27 others) bringing UK coverage to ~80% of the population
  • Shipped 153 crematorium pages covering the main UK sites, framed around direct cremation at each
  • Shipped 10 brand-vs-brand comparison pages for high-intent queries
  • Added three new cost and affordability guides: Cheapest Cremation UK, How to Pay for a Funeral, and Funeral Poverty UK

What's next

May cycle will include: follow-up outreach to providers who did not respond to our April accuracy check; continued expansion of the city and crematorium directories; and new guides on the Social Fund Funeral Expenses Payment, funeral plans after the FCA transition, and regional price differences.

If you spot anything inaccurate on our site, please email cremationcompare.team@gmail.com and we will amend within one working day.
